Are you getting tired of putting on concealer every time you go out just to cover the uneven spots on your face? Does it seem like no matter what you do, you can’t seem to get rid of your dark spots? Well, fret not because we’ve got you covered.

Dark spots or hyperpigmentation happens when your skin overproduces melanin—the natural pigment that gives human skin, hair, and eyes their color. An increase in your melanin levels results in darker skin, hence the uneven dark spots that usually appear on your face, legs, and arms. Generally, dark spots are not really a serious medical concern, but there are some cases where dark spots are a sign of an underlying skin condition. So if you want to get rid of those dark spots ASAP, stop retweeting those RT for clear skin tweets and start doing these home remedies.

Probably one of the most versatile home products out there, aloe vera is a cure to a lot of skin and hair problems, including dark spots. Aloe vera contains a compound called aloin that helps destroy melanin cells that cause hyperpigmentation. You can apply aloe vera gel directly to your face and leave it on for 30 minutes. Afterward, rinse it with lukewarm water and finish off with your moisturizer. Do this daily for best results.

Lemons contain bleaching properties such as citric acid and vitamin C which makes it a perfect skin lightening agent. There are two ways to use lemon juice, first, you can apply the juice directly to your skin by rubbing a slice of lemon gently onto your face for around 5-10 minutes, twice a day. Another is combining a tablespoon of lemon juice and water then using a cotton swab, gently apply it to the affected areas. Leave it on for 30 minutes. Do this for around two months to see obvious results.

The actual papaya fruit can be used to remedy dark spots by making a natural papaya puree and applying it on your skin. Leave it on for 20-30 minutes then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Make your own parsley face mask with a cup of chopped parsley, half a teaspoon baking soda, and a tablespoon of yogurt. Mix it together and lather onto your face, leave it on for 15 minutes then rinse off. You can do this twice or thrice a week to see results.

It can be used as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory agent, acne treatment, and skin lightening. Just like with parsley, you will have to make a turmeric paste. Mix together a teaspoon of turmeric, two tablespoons flour, and some water.
